Want your chairs to look new for longer, feel clean for every client, and avoid stiff upholstery? Let’s find a simple routine that works in a busy day. Most “leather chairs” in salons are actually vegan leather, also known as faux leather. It’s durable, dirt-repellent, and stays looking great—especially when you care for it properly.

What actually sits on your chairs throughout the day?
Shampoo, hairspray, skin cream, color residue, coffee, sweat and ordinary dust. Over time, it settles as a film that makes the surface dry. That is precisely why it makes sense to have a care product that both cleans gently and adds elasticity, so the material does not dry out and crack. If you do not want to read the entire article, you can buy a care kit right here.
A realistic routine
Imagine closing time. You shake the bottle, spray one or two pumps onto the cloth (not directly onto the chair), and wipe the seat, armrests and backrest with calm movements. Finally, give it a quick polish with the smooth side of the cloth, and the chair is left fresh and even, without any film. It takes two or three minutes per chair, and the next morning you are greeted by shiny surfaces and a subtle, clean scent.

Why Carisma from Greiner?
Because Carisma Cleaning & Care Lotion is developed specifically for professional faux leather on hairdressing chairs. The lotion is ready to use, cleans without solvents, gently removes dirt and helps prevent drying, so the surface retains its flexibility. The kit comes with a high-pile, reusable microfiber cloth that makes cleaning easy, and yes, it has been thoroughly tested in practice. Are there alternatives? Yes. Would I recommend them to a hairdresser? No.
What do you do when an accident happens?
If color, coffee or anything else gets on the upholstery, grab the cloth immediately. Wiping it off quickly makes all the difference. With color, of course, remove as much as possible first with, for example, kitchen roll or toilet paper. Then use the kit from Greiner, if possible while the client is still there. And remember this good habit during color treatments: a good cover that protects the chair saves you a lot of work and possibly the cost of buying new chairs.
“Can’t I just use water and a little alcohol?”
Water removes the surface dust, but not product film and grease. Alcohol and harsh all-purpose cleaners can dry out the upholstery and wear away its top coat. The result is a vulnerable surface that ages prematurely. If you had a salon during the coronavirus crisis, when you had to disinfect after every client, this will not come as a surprise.
A little extra care
Give the stitching, transitions and armrests a little extra care from time to time, as residue tends to collect there. Also look at the base: wiping a damp cloth over the cross base and pump keeps the metal and chrome looking good. Avoid soaking it with water; wipe it dry afterwards to prevent water marks.
A few simple rules to remember
Always test a new product in an inconspicuous place if the surface is particularly delicate. Consider the age of your furniture: if they are 12 years old now, and they were 15 years old when you bought them, the surface may react negatively to harsh products such as alcohol. Always avoid contact with eyes and heated surfaces, and do not let the product dry before wiping it off. Keep it out of children’s reach.
In short
If you spray Carisma onto the cloth and wipe down the chair every day at closing time, the faux leather stays glossy and flexible, and you start each morning with a clean work surface. If spills occur, wipe them up immediately. Once it becomes a habit, you extend the chair’s lifespan, make a great first impression and create a more pleasant experience for both you and your clients.
