How to get more Google reviews as a hairdresser
Why Google reviews matter
When a new customer searches for "hairdresser" and your city, Google shows a list of nearby salons. The reviews appear right next to each name, and they are often the first thing the customer looks at. Google itself states that the number and quality of reviews affect how visible you are in local searches. That is why it is the best and easiest place to start if you want more new customers.
This advice applies mainly if you get your customers locally. If your customers come from all over the country, it matters less.
Make it easy to leave a review
The fewer steps, the more reviews you will get. In your Google profile, you can copy a direct link to the review form and turn it into a QR code. To make it even easier, you can buy an NFC stand or an NFC sticker from one of the many providers. Then the customer only has to hold their phone up to the sign.
I recommend choosing one solution rather than several. Place the sign where the customer is already standing and paying. Preferably choose a solution without a subscription or commitment, because you do not need to pay every month for a link.
Ask at the right time
The best time is right after a treatment, when the customer is happy. Say it out loud and personally, for example: "If you are happy, it would mean a lot to me if you wrote a few words on Google." It takes ten seconds. If you have a sign standing there, it is easier to point to it than to explain how to find you.
What to avoid
You cannot trick Google, and you should not try. Never write fake reviews yourself, and never ask others to do it. Google also does not allow you to offer a discount or a gift in exchange for a review, and you must not only ask customers you know are satisfied. If you are caught, the reviews may be removed. Instead, sincerely thank your customers, regardless of what they write.
Respond to the reviews
Respond to all reviews, including critical ones. A calm and friendly response shows your future customers how you handle feedback. Avoid defending yourself or writing while you are irritated. Wait until the next day, and thank them for the criticism.
Final words
Reviews are only one part of how customers experience your salon.
