Washing units and salon backwash units

Are you looking for a washing unit or complete salon backwash units for your salon? Hair washing is one of the treatments during which the client spends the longest time in the chair, and the right washing unit makes a real difference to both the client’s experience and your own working environment. Here you will find salon backwash units in all price ranges, from simple washing units to washing units with massage and the exclusive Yume washing system, from brands such as Comfortel, Solida Furniture, Mirplay, Takara Belmont and Kiela.

Guide: How to choose the right washing unit

Here are the most important things to consider before making your choice.

1. Standard washing unit or washing unit with massage?

A standard washing unit is designed for efficient hair washing, while a washing unit with massage, such as Fredda II, has a built-in massage function in the backrest. The massage function helps turn the visit into an experience rather than just a necessary part of the treatment, which can be a real selling point if you want to differentiate your salon through the experience. If you do not have the space or budget for the massage function at every station, it may be a good idea to have one washing unit with massage for clients who book a longer, more luxurious treatment.

2. Basin and materials

The basin is typically made of porcelain or a similar hard, smooth surface that is easy to keep clean and does not absorb colour from hair colour products over time. The basin is available in both white and black, depending on whether you want contrast with the chair’s upholstery or a more uniform look. The upholstery is typically durable faux leather, chosen because it withstands frequent contact with water and cleaning products better than fabric, without compromising on comfort.

3. Which price range suits your salon?

Washing units range from simple, budget-friendly models to the most exclusive systems on the market. If you are equipping a new salon with several stations at once, or if you have a tight budget, Hazel, Zippy and Club from Comfortel are good starting points. They are all upholstered in vegan leather and have stainless steel legs, and an ottoman can be added to each so the client can put their feet up. Zippy is the most compact of the three and has an extra-deep basin, which is practical for clients with long hair. If you have very limited space or budget, the freestanding basin Basin Stand XL is the cheapest alternative, as you only pay for the basin itself, not a complete chair. If you would rather invest in the best of the best, Yume from Takara Belmont is Denmark’s most exclusive washing system, and we are the only Danish supplier of it.

4. Adjustment and ergonomics

Most washing units have an adjustable neck rest, allowing the client to find a comfortable position regardless of their height. Some models, such as RS Adria II, also have a built-in footrest that relieves pressure on the legs during a longer treatment. An adjustable backrest makes it possible to find the right angle, both for the client’s comfort and to give you a good working position at the basin, without having to bend unnecessarily.

5. Freestanding basin as an alternative

If you have limited space or want a more flexible solution where the client sits in a regular chair instead of a fixed washing unit, a freestanding basin is worth considering. Here, the basin itself is mounted on a pedestal, and the client is wheeled over to it in a chair with wheels, rather than using a dedicated washing unit. This allows you to use the same chair for several purposes throughout the day instead of having a station that can only be used for hair washing. However, you do lose some of the comfort of a dedicated washing unit, which typically has more padding and better support specifically adapted to hair washing.

6. Hair Spa and extra accessories

If you want to take the experience even further, accessories such as waterfall and rainfall sets change how the water reaches the hair during washing, while Hair Spa washing units have built-in equipment for a more spa-like treatment. This is an investment that makes particular sense if you market scalp treatments or head spa as part of your offering, as clients who specifically book this type of treatment typically expect—and are willing to pay for—a more pronounced experience than a standard hair wash. If head spa is not a focus of your marketing, the accessories are less often a necessary investment.

7. Budget

Prices vary considerably, from a simple washing unit to a complete Yume system with massage function and extra accessories. If you are equipping several stations at once, it can pay to look at the complete solution rather than only the price of each individual chair, as you can often achieve a better overall price by ordering several chairs at a time. If budget is the most important factor for you and you do not need massage or extra accessories, a simple model such as Hazel or Club can fully meet your needs without compromising on the essentials.

Popular products

Hazel from Comfortel is one of our best-selling washing units, with several colour options for both the basin and upholstery. Fredda II from Solida Furniture is the preferred choice when a massage function is required and is available in six colours. Jacob, Noe and Ralph from Mirplay are often chosen by salons that prioritise a good price without compromising on functionality, while Shiki and RS Prime from Takara Belmont are selected by salons looking for a more exclusive look.

Washing units with massage

The Fredda II series from Solida Furniture has a built-in massage function in the backrest and is available in six colours, from classic black to green and brick red. The massage function makes the visit a more relaxing experience for the client and can help justify a higher treatment price if you market it as part of the experience. See our full selection of washing units with massage if the massage function is the most important feature for you.

Yume, the exclusive washing system

Yume, Yume DX, Yume Espoir and Yume Noble from Takara Belmont make up Denmark’s most exclusive washing system, and we are the only Danish supplier. The system differs from a standard washing unit in its finish, choice of materials and overall comfort experience, and it is available in several colour options so it can be tailored to your salon’s style. See our complete guide to Yume washing units if you would like to learn more about what sets the system apart from a standard washing unit.

Brands

Comfortel supplies most of the range, including Hazel, Club, Lambert and Zippy, in a wide selection of colours. Solida Furniture is behind the Fredda II washing units with massage. Mirplay supplies Jacob, Noe and Ralph at a good price. Takara Belmont, the Japanese brand, supplies both the Yume series and models such as Shiki and RS Prime. Kiela, the Dutch family-owned brand, supplies products including Aquascoop Brother and Wellness Sofa. See the full brand overview if you want to compare more manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions about washing units

What is the difference between a washing unit and a washing unit with massage?

A standard washing unit is designed for efficient hair washing with a focus on ergonomics and comfort. A washing unit with massage, such as Fredda II, also has a built-in massage function in the backrest, making the visit a more luxurious experience. The massage function costs extra, but can be a real selling point if you want to differentiate your salon through the experience, not just the hair wash itself. If you have clients who book longer, more relaxing treatments, this is often where the investment pays off fastest, because the client experiences extra value for money from the moment the treatment begins.

What is the difference between a washing unit and a freestanding basin?

A washing unit is a fixed, dedicated chair with a built-in basin, where the client remains seated throughout the treatment. A freestanding basin is instead a basin mounted on a pedestal, which the client is wheeled over to in a regular chair with wheels. A freestanding basin is a good solution if you have limited space or want a more flexible layout where the chairs are not tied to one specific function.

Is Yume better than a standard washing unit?

Yume is Denmark’s most exclusive washing system, and we are the only Danish supplier. The system differs from a standard washing unit in its finish, choice of materials and comfort level, but a standard washing unit such as Hazel or Club fully handles the essential task of hair washing at a much lower price. If you are unsure whether the investment is worthwhile for your salon, you can read more in our Yume guide or visit the showroom and experience the difference for yourself.

Which washing unit is suitable for a salon with limited space?

A freestanding basin can be a good solution, as the basin does not require its own dedicated chair but instead shares space with a regular chair used for several purposes. Among standard washing units, compact models such as Compact from Takara Belmont are also worth considering if space is tight, as they take up less room without compromising on the essential function. If you are unsure what would work best with your salon layout, you can contact us for advice, preferably with the dimensions of the available area.

What warranty is available for washing units?

You get at least a 2-year warranty on all furniture and equipment you buy from us, including washing units. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the frame, basin, mixer and moving parts such as the massage function and adjustment mechanisms, whether it is a simple model or a complete Yume system. Please note that our general 14-day right of return does not cover made-to-order items or products customised specifically for your order, which particularly applies to colour choices and upholstery on several models.
