NewLite hairdresser lighting for professional salons

Looking for lighting that’s genuinely made for cutting and colouring under, rather than just a light you have lying around at home? NewLite was developed in collaboration with Just Add People, specifically for hair salons, barbershops and clinics, and is sold exclusively by us. All models have a colour rendering rating of at least CRI 90, so you see hair colours exactly as they are, both in the salon and when the client goes outside. Here you’ll find linear lighting, spotlights, panel fixtures and track systems, all built for a busy salon. See also our full selection of lighting and hairdresser lighting if you want to compare across brands.

Guide: How to choose the right NewLite lighting

Lighting in a salon isn’t just about how bright it is. Here are the most important things to consider before you choose.

1. Spotlight or diffuse light?

This is the most important decision you’ll make. A spotlight, such as Sunspot or the light in the Track system, creates sharper contrast in the hair, which technically highlights the interplay of colours more beautifully. On the other hand, spotlights create shadows more easily, for example under the client’s neck or chin. Flatter, more diffuse lighting, such as Sunbeam or Sunlight, provides even, soft light without the same shadows. Many hairdressers and clients comment on how comfortable it is to sit under. The trade-off for soft light is that you sacrifice some of the contrast in the hair that spotlights provide. If you have a workstation where colour accuracy is the top priority, a spotlight may be the right choice. If you want a calm, comfortable environment for the client throughout an entire treatment, diffuse light is often the better choice. Many salons actually choose a combination of both types.

2. Colour temperature

As a starting point, all NewLite lamps are set to 3,000K. This is a deliberate choice because it provides warm, comfortable light in the salon while ensuring that the hair colour looks the same when the client leaves the salon and steps into daylight. Light that is too cool can make colours look yellowish or give a misleading impression of the shade you’ve just coloured. Some models, such as Sunlight and Sun Square, can be adjusted to several Kelvin values if you prefer cooler light in a particular area of the salon, for example at the reception desk.

3. CRI, colour rendering

CRI (Colour Rendering Index) tells you how accurately a light reproduces colours compared with daylight. All NewLite models have a CRI above 90, which is significantly higher than many inexpensive alternatives. A low CRI can make an otherwise correct hair colour look wrong during the treatment itself, something that typically isn’t discovered until the client gets home and sees it in ordinary light. This is one of the most overlooked causes of dissatisfied clients after a colour treatment, and it’s genuinely a lighting problem, not a colour problem.

4. Lumens and number of fixtures

NewLite lights generally have a high lumen output. This means you’ll typically need fewer lamps to achieve the same amount of light that would require several more from a cheaper alternative. If you buy inexpensive spotlights with a low lumen output, you’ll often end up investing in more lamps to achieve the same result, which can make the cheaper solution more expensive in the long run. Consider the total number of fixtures you’ll actually need, not just the price per unit.

5. Installation

The Track system is 3-phase and follows the industry standard, so you can freely position and move spotlights along the track as needed. Sunbeam and Sunlight can be mounted directly on the ceiling or suspended from steel wire if you want a more floating look. If you already have a 3-phase track from another brand, NewLite’s track-mounted models will fit without any problems.

6. Professional lighting or decorative lighting

Most NewLite models are professional lighting, designed to give you the best possible basis for working precisely. Zoomspot is an exception: it’s decorative lighting developed to highlight display shelving and product displays, not for working under. If you’re lighting the entire salon, it’s worth combining professional lighting at the stations with softer decorative lighting in the waiting area and around the shelves.

7. Budget

The price ranges from a single spotlight to a complete track system with several fixtures. If you’re lighting an entire salon, it can pay to consider the overall solution rather than choosing the cheapest individual product. As described above, a high lumen output often means you can manage with fewer lamps, which is worth including in your total budget.

Popular NewLite products

Sunbeam is the most popular linear professional lighting option and is available for track mounting, direct ceiling mounting and steel-wire suspension. The Track package, with track and Sunspot, is popular with salons that want to move and adjust the lighting according to the workstations. Sunlight, with its round design and DALI compatibility, is often chosen by salons with a more modern look, while Sun Square with micro-prismatic technology is a firm favourite when you want to highlight the interplay of colours in the hair.

Sunbeam

Sunbeam is a 90 cm linear professional light that provides broad, natural light without harsh shadows. It’s available in black and white and can be mounted on a 3-phase track, directly on the ceiling or suspended from steel wire. Sunbeam is the NewLite light most often chosen when diffuse, soft light is prioritised over contrast.

Track and Sunspot

Track is NewLite’s 3-phase track system, which follows the industry standard and is therefore compatible with tracks from other brands. Sunspot is the spotlight mounted on the track, providing the sharper contrast that highlights the interplay of colours in the hair. The track is available as an extension track in both black and white, and you can add steel-wire suspension if you want a floating look instead of direct ceiling mounting.

Sun Square

Sun Square is a 60x60 cm panel light with micro-prismatic technology, a fine grid that creates a more attractive interplay in the hair than an ordinary flat panel. The model is available in a dimmable version, allowing you to switch between cool and warm white light depending on the task at the station.

Sunlight and Sun Circle

Sunlight and Sun Circle are NewLite’s round fixtures, measuring Ø60/Ø90 and Ø100 cm respectively. Both are mounted directly on the ceiling and provide soft, diffuse professional lighting without cast shadows. Sunlight is DALI-compatible if your salon uses a central lighting control system, and can be set to several Kelvin values depending on your needs.

Zoomspot

Zoomspot is NewLite’s decorative lighting, developed to highlight display shelving and product displays, not for working under. It’s a natural choice if you want to draw attention to a product display without investing in full professional lighting for the purpose.

Frequently asked questions about NewLite

Should I choose a spotlight or a flatter light such as Sunbeam?

It depends on what you prioritise. A spotlight, such as Sunspot in the Track system, creates sharper contrast and highlights the interplay of colours in the hair more accurately from a technical perspective, but it also creates shadows more easily, for example under the client’s neck. A flatter light such as Sunbeam or Sunlight provides even, diffuse light without the same shadows, and many clients find it more comfortable to sit under throughout an entire treatment. The trade-off is that you sacrifice some of the contrast. If you’re unsure, you can experience both types in our showroom, where the entire premises are lit with NewLite.

Why is NewLite always set to 3,000K?

3,000K provides warm, comfortable light in the salon without compromising how the hair colour looks when the client leaves the salon and steps into daylight. Cooler light can make a hair colour look wrong—often too yellow or too cool—during the treatment itself, with the problem only becoming apparent afterwards in daylight. Some models, such as Sunlight and Sun Square, can be adjusted to several Kelvin values if you have a specific need elsewhere in the salon, for example at the reception desk.

How many NewLite lamps do I need for my salon?

It depends on the size of the salon and the number of workstations, but because NewLite lights have a high lumen output, you’ll typically need fewer fixtures than with cheaper alternatives to achieve the same amount of light. A rule of thumb is one professional light per station, supplemented with decorative lighting in the waiting area and around the shelves. If you’re unsure which solution is right for your salon, you can contact us for advice or visit our showroom and see the setup in practice.

Can NewLite be used for anything other than professional lighting?

Yes. Zoomspot was developed specifically as decorative lighting to highlight display shelving and product displays, not as professional lighting. If you want to create atmosphere in the waiting area or at the reception desk, it’s worth combining NewLite’s professional lighting at the stations with softer decorative lighting elsewhere in the salon.

What warranty does NewLite come with?

You get at least a 2-year warranty on all equipment you buy from us, including NewLite. Several of NewLite’s models, including Sunlight and Sun Circle, come with up to a 5-year warranty directly from the manufacturer. Please note that our general 14-day right of return does not cover made-to-order items or products customised specifically for your order.
