Do you have your salon towels under control?

A towel shelf keeps clean towels together in one place, so you avoid rummaging through drawers in the middle of a treatment. Our range covers six variants from Ästetik: the same shelf in two widths and three finishes, black, white and brushed steel. The shelf was originally a sales shelf for displaying products, but works just as well as a towel shelf behind the washing units, which many of our customers already use it for.

Guide: How to choose the right towel shelf

1. Placement: where should the towels be within reach?

Most people install the towel shelf behind the washing units, so clean towels are within reach just when the client gets up from the wash basin. Others mount it at the workstation itself, closer to the styling chair, where towels are used to dry the hair during the treatment. Both placements work with the same shelf; it depends on where your workflow actually takes place, not which model you choose. Map out your workflow if you are unsure, and see where you physically reach for a towel most often during the day.

2. Size: 32 or 76 centimetres

The shelf comes in two widths. 32 centimetres is enough for one workstation, where you need a couple of rolled-up towels within reach without taking up too much wall space. 76 centimetres gives you room for a full set of towels at once, making it suitable if several stylists share the same washing area. If you only have one washing unit, 32 centimetres is usually plenty, while a shared washing station with two or more places will typically require the longer version.

3. Material: aluminium or brushed steel

Black and White Slim are made from powder-coated aluminium, while the Steel version is made from brushed stainless steel. Both materials withstand moisture and daily disinfection without any problems, which is why they are used in washing areas in countless salons. The difference is in the look rather than the durability. Aluminium gives a clean, uniform look in black or white, while brushed steel has a rawer, more industrial finish that often matches metal taps and washing units.

4. Installation: get it up on the wall quickly

All six shelves are installed with just two screws. This makes them quick to put up, and you do not need to call in a tradesperson for a single shelf. Make sure you install it on a wall that can support the weight of wet towels. Plasterboard often requires a wall plug or installation directly into a stud behind it, while a brick wall is rarely a problem.

5. Number of towels: how much should the shelf hold?

How many towels you can actually fit depends on whether you lay them flat or roll them up. Rolled-up towels take up less depth and leave room for more on the same width, while also looking tidier on an open shelf. If you have many clients per hour, it is worth working out how often the towels need changing, so you do not run out in the middle of a busy day.

6. Budget: what does it cost to get your towels organised?

The price increases with both length and material. The short aluminium shelf in 32 centimetres is the cheapest, while the long brushed steel shelf is the most expensive of the six variants. If you need to install towel shelves in several places in the salon, for example both by the washing area and at the workstation, it can pay to compare the price per centimetre rather than only looking at each shelf in isolation. Feel free to use the contact page if you need several shelves at once and would like a complete overview.

Frequently asked questions about towel shelves

How many towels can a towel shelf hold?

It depends on the width and how you fold the towels. The short 32-centimetre shelf is intended for a smaller number of towels at a single workstation, while the 76-centimetre version provides room for a complete set for several clients in a row. If you roll the towels up instead of laying them flat, you can typically fit more on the same width, and they also look tidier on an open shelf. If you have many clients each day, it is a good idea to measure according to your actual usage before choosing the length, so you do not have to restock in the middle of a treatment.

Should the towel shelf go by the washing area or the styling chair?

Both work, and the shelf was actually originally intended as a sales shelf for displaying products. Even so, many salons choose to install it behind the washing units because that is where the towels are used first, when the client gets up after having their hair washed. Others prefer to have it close to the workstation itself, where you use the towel throughout the haircut. There is no wrong placement; it depends on where in your daily workflow you reach for a towel most often.

Which finish is best for my salon?

Black and white aluminium provide a clean, uniform look that suits most modern salons, whether the rest of the interior is light or dark. Brushed steel has a cooler, more industrial finish and works well if you already have taps, washing units or other metal furnishings that you would like to match. There is no difference in durability between the materials; both withstand moisture and daily cleaning in a washing area. The choice is therefore purely aesthetic, not practical.

Can the shelf be used for anything other than towels?

Yes. The Slim shelf was originally designed as a sales shelf for displaying products, and the same shelf is also part of our range of shampoo shelves and sales shelves. Many salons therefore use it for several purposes at once, for example displaying a few products at one end and placing clean towels at the other. This makes the shelf a flexible solution if you have limited wall space and need one investment to cover several needs.

Will the shelf rust from moisture from wet towels?

No. Both the powder-coated aluminium and brushed stainless steel are made to withstand moisture and daily contact with water without affecting the surface. That is exactly why these materials are used in salon washing areas, where shelves and taps are exposed to water every day. You do not need to wipe the shelf after every client to prevent damage; regular cleaning is enough to keep it looking good for many years.

How long do delivery and installation take?

Contact us via the contact page for the current delivery time for the individual shelf. Installation itself only takes a few minutes, as all six variants are installed with just two screws, and you do not need professional help for the job. If you need advice on which width or finish suits your salon best, you can book a visit to our showroom and see the shelves in person before ordering.
