How do you ensure that your Head Spa equipment is original and Head Spa certified? Look for a certification label and make sure the equipment is produced by Japanese Takara Belmont.

What does “Head Spa Certified” actually mean?
It’s your guarantee that both equipment and techniques meet the quality requirements needed to call your treatment a genuine Head Spa. Once you have the right gear—Yume Wash, Head Bath accessories, and Spa Mist – and you’ve earned the certification, it shows that you’re fully committed to professional, comprehensive hair and scalp care. It’s not something that just looks or claims to be similar; it’s the real deal. I can’t stress enough how important it is to choose the genuine Head Spa concept if you want to offer your clients a superior experience – and secure the official certification. You might have seen names like “Hair Spa” or something along those lines, but the truth is that Head Spa is the only one you can actually become certified in. And that makes a world of difference for both you and your customers.
Look for the “Head Spa Certified” label
To make things easier, we’ve labeled all our Head Spa furniture with a badge, so you’re always sure you’re getting the original. Let’s face it: whether you buy the original or a copy is a big investment, so you may as well choose the genuine product from the start, right? Keep an eye out for labels like these:

Why is it so important to buy the original?
-
You can only be certified with authentic equipment
If you purchase something that merely looks like Head Spa gear but isn’t the real thing, you won’t be certified.
-
Your salon stands out
A certificate signals that you offer a unique, luxurious treatment – something a competitor with a “Hair Spa” sign can’t necessarily match.
-
Better durability and support
Original Head Spa equipment from, for example, Takara Belmont is built to last – and you get support from people who truly know the product inside and out.
What happens if you don’t choose the real thing?
Uneven or overly intense steam
Spa Mist is designed to produce a microscopic mist, so hair and scalp are treated gently. With a cheap copy, you risk steam that’s too harsh or too hot, which can damage both hair and scalp.
Diluted color and treatments
Precisely controlled temperature and steam levels in Spa Mist ensure that your colors and treatments aren’t watered down. If you use a knockoff, you can end up with unpredictable steam output, which negatively impacts your color or treatment instead of allowing it to penetrate effectively into the hair.
Lack of safety and durability
Authentic Head Spa equipment is built for professional, daily salon use and meets strict quality standards. Copies may be made with lower-quality materials that don’t last or that fail to protect against overheating. Those kinds of issues can cost you money and time – and, in the worst case, hurt the customer experience. We recently had a customer who needed a spare part for a model that was 8 years old. I think it took just three days before she had the replacement in hand. Takara Belmont really has it figured out.
No Head Spa certification
Perhaps the biggest drawback: If you buy a copy, you won’t meet the requirements Takara Belmont sets for issuing an official certification. You can offer a “similar” treatment, but you can’t market it as a genuine Head Spa. This also means your customers won’t get the same quality and reassurance regarding the treatment’s effectiveness. Takara Belmont’s Head Spa certification requires Spa Mist, a Yume Wash, and Headbath accessories. Certification takes place in your salon or at our location (Just Add People) and lasts up to two hours.
The man behind Spa Mist – and why he’s not worried about copies
I was lucky enough to speak with the very developer of the Spa Mist, and he told me he never doubted that knockoffs would appear once the technology became a hit. But he also wasn’t worried. The reason? When you copy a piece of equipment, you’re only imitating the look—not the unique features or the expertise that went into creating it. Spa Mist was developed with in-depth knowledge of hair, scalp, and the chemical processes in hair care products. You can’t just replicate that by making something that looks similar. That’s why the copies simply can’t compete with the original, and you’ll notice the difference right away –in both quality and the results of your treatments.
Yume Wash, Headbath, and Spa Mist—what are they?
Yume Wash
A specially designed wash chair where the client can lie almost flat. There’s a reason why you’re not laid down 100% – the idea is to reduce stress and headaches; if you were completely horizontal, blood would rush to your head. So you’re not fully flat, but almost. The chair’s contours follow the body’s shape so you’re not lying on a perfectly flat surface. Let’s face it: lying on a hard, flat table has never been super comfortable, right? Come by and try it – I promise it’s worth the trip.
Headbath
Headbath is a specialized accessory that only works with Yume Wash chairs. Yes, there are plenty of imitators out there, but they have the same problem: they look the part, but can’t do the same thing. The unique feature of Headbath is that the water doesn’t simply run out and down onto your customer’s head. It’s gently guided out of the curved outlet to hit the three pressure points on your forehead where all your nerves cluster. If you’re quick, you might wonder, “What about the two pressure points in the neck?” Don’t worry – that’s why Headbath comes with a bowl for the neck area, so those last two nerve clusters are gently massaged with warm water while you enjoy the soothing sounds of running water. Need I say more? You won’t get that experience anywhere else.
Spa Mist
An advanced mist machine that atomizes water or treatments into microscopic droplets, allowing hair and scalp to truly absorb the nourishing ingredients. The unique aspect is that it’s not traditional steam but an ultra-fine mist, giving you all the benefits you know from standard steam machines—without risking damage to the client’s hair or scalp. You also don’t run the risk of diluting your treatment or color. Definitely worth keeping in mind, if you ask me.
