Salon stool for your salon

Are you looking for a salon stool that can handle a busy working day without compromising on ergonomics? At Just Add People, you’ll find more than 30 salon stools in our range, from simple round stools to saddle stools and models with backrests. All are designed for the hairdresser’s dynamic working day, with adjustable height, 360-degree rotation and wheels that stay free of hair.

Guide: How to choose the right salon stool

Here are the most important things to consider when choosing a salon stool for your salon.

1. Ergonomics and adjustment

A salon stool should be height-adjustable and rotate freely, so you can always position yourself correctly in relation to the client, whether you sit or stand during the treatment. If you choose a stool that does not suit your own height or working position, you may end up bending or stretching unnaturally throughout the day, which can strain your back, shoulders and neck over time. Always check the stool’s adjustment range against how many different employees will use it if you share the same work area.

2. Wheels or fixed base

Most of our salon stools have hair-resistant wheels that make it easy to move around the salon without the wheels getting clogged with cut hair. This is an advantage if you often move between several work areas or collect products during the treatment. If you prefer a completely fixed, stable setup, we also have models with a cross base without wheels. Consider how much you actually move during a treatment before making your choice.

3. Saddle stool or salon stool with a backrest

A saddle stool encourages an upright sitting position through the shape of the seat itself, which many hairdressers find gentler on the back over a full working day. A salon stool with a backrest, on the other hand, lets you lean back during short breaks between clients. There is no single right answer; it depends on how you work and whether you prefer active support or occasional rest. If you are unsure, try both types, as the difference is easiest to feel in practice rather than on paper.

4. Material and upholstery

The upholstery on our salon stools is typically vegan leather, which is durable and easy to keep clean, even with daily disinfection between clients. If you choose a dark colour such as black, it is more forgiving of everyday hair-colour stains, while lighter shades such as beige or pink require a little more maintenance but create a brighter, more open look in the salon. Consider how often the stool will realistically be cleaned when choosing a colour.

5. Base and stability

A stable base is essential when you lean over the client during a haircut, as a wobbly stool both feels unsafe and makes precision work more difficult. Most of our salon stools have a sturdy five-point base in either steel or aluminium. Aluminium is lighter and gives a more modern appearance, while steel is typically perceived as slightly more robust for intensive daily use. Both materials are suitable for a professional salon, so the choice is mainly about appearance and weight.

6. Price and brand

If you are equipping several work areas at once, it can pay to compare brands before making your choice. Comfortel covers most budgets with a broad, versatile range, while Solida Furniture and Takara Belmont are at the more exclusive end, with heavier materials and finer finishes. If you are equipping an entire salon, you can contact us for a combined sale quote instead of ordering the stools individually.

Popular salon stools

Round Black from Comfortel is one of our best-selling salon stools, a simple round stool with a cross base in either black or chrome. Stella, the saddle stool from Solida Furniture, is often chosen by hairdressers who prioritise an active, upright sitting position throughout the day. If you prefer back support, Rolio with a backrest from Solida Furniture is a popular choice. If you need something truly special, D-Stool from Takara Belmont is our most exclusive model, with an aluminium frame throughout.

Saddle stools

Our saddle stools are shaped to help you sit in a more active, upright position throughout the working day, which many hairdressers find gentler on the back than a regular stool with a flat seat. The seat shape naturally supports the correct hip angle, without you having to think about it while cutting hair. We have saddle stools from both Comfortel and Solida Furniture, in several colours and price ranges.

Round salon stools

The round salon stools are our most classic and versatile model, with a round seat and either wheels or a cross base. They are often the natural choice if you want a stool that works for all types of treatments without special requirements for your sitting position. The models are available in a wide range of colours, from classic black and brown to more distinctive shades such as pink and blush, so you can match the stool to the salon’s overall look.

Salon stools with backrests

If you prefer to be able to lean back between treatments, our salon stools with backrests are worth a closer look. They are particularly popular among hairdressers who stand for much of the day and need to rest their backs during the short breaks that arise throughout the day. The backrest is designed not to restrict your freedom of movement when you stand up again to continue the treatment.

Brands we stock

We stock salon stools from Comfortel, which covers most budgets with a broad and versatile range, as well as Solida Furniture and Takara Belmont, both of which are at the more exclusive end with heavier materials and finer finishes. If you are unsure which brand is best suited to your salon, you can view the full brand overview and compare them across the range.

Frequently asked questions about salon stools

What is the difference between a saddle stool and a regular salon stool?

A saddle stool has a split or angled seat that encourages an active, upright sitting position and naturally supports the correct hip angle throughout the working day. A regular salon stool has a flat, round seat that is more versatile and suits several body types without an adjustment period. Many hairdressers find a saddle stool gentler on the back during long working days, while others prefer the familiar, neutral sitting position of a regular salon stool. If you are unsure, you can try both types in our showroom before making your decision.

Should I choose a salon stool with or without a backrest?

It depends on how much you move during the treatment. If you stand most of the time and only sit down briefly, a backrest can be comfortable to lean against between clients. If you move constantly around the stool while cutting hair, a backrest may instead feel restrictive and get in the way. Many hairdressers who cut hair standing for most of the day therefore prefer a model without a backrest, while hairdressers carrying out longer seated treatments, such as colouring, often appreciate the support.

Do you sell used salon stools?

Yes, we regularly have demo models and used furniture from our own showroom, sold at a reduced price. The selection changes continuously as we update the display, so it is a good idea to keep an eye on the used furniture page if you are looking for a good price on a model that has already been tested in practice. As the stock of used stools is limited and changes frequently, we recommend acting quickly if you find a model that suits you. The models have typically only been on display in the showroom, so you get a fully functional stool at a lower price than a brand-new one.

How often should the wheels on a salon stool be cleaned of hair?

The hair-resistant wheels on our salon stools are designed to collect significantly less hair than ordinary furniture wheels, but they are not completely self-cleaning. In a busy salon, we recommend a quick check once a week, removing any accumulated hair with your fingers or a small brush. If you do this regularly, the stool will roll quietly and move easily around the salon without the wheels starting to catch or getting stuck in the middle of a busy working day. If you skip cleaning for longer periods, hair can become trapped around the wheel axle, making the stool harder to move and potentially causing the wheel itself to wear out more quickly over time.

What warranty do salon stools come with?

You get at least a 2-year warranty on all salon stools, regardless of the brand or model you choose. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the frame, upholstery, gas lift and wheels, so you are covered if something breaks during normal use in a typical salon. Please note that our general 14-day right of return does not cover made-to-order items or products customised specifically for your order, which is rarely relevant for salon stools as most are sold as standard models. If something breaks within the warranty period, simply contact us and we will find the best solution together.
